A Message from GOHS director Harris blackwood

Welcome to our website, we hope this is a place you can readily find the information you need.

The work of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is focused on statistics and improving upon them.

For some, such as the number of crashes and deaths on the highways, we want them to go down.  Others, such as drivers using seat belts and children protected by a properly used safety seat, are ones we want to go higher.

At the same time, we must remember that each one of these statistics is important.  When someone dies because of a crash on the highways, it represents a child, a friend, a loved one or a parent who will not come home. They represent an empty place on birthdays or holidays.

Governor Nathan Deal has charged our agency with the task of making Georgia’s roads as safe as possible.  Working with local law enforcement professionals throughout the state, our goal is to get intoxicated, distracted and impaired drivers off the road.

We want to make certain young drivers are fully aware of the lethal power of two tons of steel traveling at highway speeds.

For the people of Georgia, this is your agency and we look forward to serving you.  We want you to find the road to safe travel through our state and will do everything in our power to make it that way.

At your service,

Harris Blackwood
Director
